This design proposal for a data lab in Tanzania aims to transform two existing building zones into creative co-working spaces.
The proposal provides a flexible layout that allows the users to remodel the large space according to need. Open, semi-enclosed, fully enclosed are the three main scenarios that can be achieved by this design ( Check Plans).
-An open area allows for maximum interaction between users in events like training sessions, lectures and conferences.
-Semi-enclosed spaces can be utilized for separate presentations or exhibitions.
-Fully enclosed spaces can be used as formal working places when privacy is required.
A proposed layout for the furniture arrangement can be also viewed in the uploaded images for both blocks.
The main entrance of the block is proposed to be through the small room. It will function as a reception and lounge for the project. The other small room will function a storage with lockers as per the competition brief.
Other existing doors will serve as emergency exits.
The main space of this block is divided into three main zones:
-The Whiteboard area where users can brainstorm their ideas, an instructor can lecture people or where users can make presentations.
Casual seats are to be provided for short-term orientations.
-The training desks fully equipped with power outlets are to be used for work. This area can be re-arranged as per the uploaded plans.
The high chair area is a place for casual discussions and meetings among users.
-A solo work bench is provided as a private zone where users can work in a focused environment.
Three meeting pods enclosed in partitions of wood and glass are also planned in this space for more enclosed meetings/ presentations.
Three more windows and an entrance are added to this block to allow more sunlight in. The existing doors can be used as emergency exits.
A more formal are is proposed for this block. It includes the following:
-A Lounge facing the proposed main entrance.
-A high chair table for quick brainstorming
-Two Meeting Pods for enclosed meetings or presentations.
-Three main enclosed co-working desks for several groups of users to work
-A locker area is also proposed for this block.
Check uploaded plans for space remodeling and furniture arrangement proposals.
A simple landscape scheme is proposed for the highlighted area. It focuses on the connection of the two buildings through walkways and the preservation of the existing trees and greenery.
A centered common working area in a gazebo like structure is proposed for outdoor sessions during good weather periods.
Due to the lack of details on the toilet area. We proposed a completely new layout for the toilets the include a common entrance as per the client request.
We also suggest turning the adjacent space into a pantry/ cafe that caters the proposed facilities.
