We are building a new home, and we have an empty slate backyard that we want to design. We want a great mix of kid friendly, but visually appealing backyard design.
We need to submit a plan for construction soon, so the quicker the better. Thanks for your interest in the project!
We like very clean lines and structured design elements. Generally speaking, here are the elements we want and some general places we want them to be:
-We want a large grass area immediately outside the patio and back of the house.
-Closely mixed in the grass area would be an adjacent sandbox playground area. The grass area could even be partially conform around the sandbox play area. The sandbox should be a fairly good size.
-We'd like a paver sitting area that can view both the grass and playground area. One that can also view the sport court would be good, or a separate sitting area for that.
-In the large east side yard area, we would like to do a sport court.
-Somewhere in the yard we would like to do a herb and veggie garden. This could be in the east side yard area as well.
-Raise bed and planters are features that could be used.
-For our plants, we generally want to low water use desert plants. Several plants we like are weber agave, candelilia, giant hespereloes, red yucca, fence post cacti. All of these plants are low water and low maintenance and have a cool structured look to them.
-For trees, we would like several large shade trees on the west side of the yard to provide afternoon shade, and possibly one of the southwest side of the yard as well. Our potential view areas are on the east side of the yard, so a large tree over there may obstruct the view.
-We love large boulders and stone elements.
-Paver walkways should generally connect the different elements.
-We are open to any other cool features you can think of that would be kid friendly. We raelly want this to be a fun cool yard, but still look really structured and visually interesting.
