Space is very bland, rooms are dark, lighting is poor, and windows appear to be too low. I am not planning to make any major structural changes at this time. I would like to use some of my existing furniture if possible. Kitchen is new but needs a backsplash, a design plan for space above cabinets, and better lighting. Tile floors are new.
Goal is cohesive design plan for living/kitchen/den area, plus complementary design for master bedroom. My preferred style is "organic modern" with Asian/Moroccan influence and a few antiques (mine) and eclectic pieces thrown in. I like a contrast of light and dark, with woods and metals, vs. monochromatic. I plan to execute the project myself with help from local contractors so I will need good guidance on color palette and materials. I would like to work with the designer during the project but designer may not need to be on site.
I may need to move in the next year so I would prefer that nothing be too personalized such that I would need to "undo" the design in order to sell. I would like to add elements to the walls such as modern shelving and a TV mount but do not want to invest extensively in built-ins. TV must be viewable from kitchen/dining area. Window coverings are needed throughout -- and the plastic vertical blinds will go! The dog door is ugly but will remain. I prefer a somewhat minimalist style (not too many decor items) but perhaps not as minimalist as the current state!
I plan to spend around $10,000, and may do the work in stages to make it more affordable. Walls, windows, lighting and backsplash are my first priorities. I may implement the furniture plan more slowly, incorporating consignment/vintage finds, and/or recovering my Edward Ferrell down sofa to help keep costs manageable.
detailed guidelines on installations such are shelfing or built-in elements.
I included a view of a design I liked for the den.
