First, I would like to thank you for posting this project. I was both challenging and enjoyable. If you have any questions in regard to this design, please do not hesitate to contact me email@example.com.
The Big Idea
The solution I am presenting adds significant space to the design while using the existing architectonic elements of your residence. The elements are reinterpreted and applied to reduce the overall scale of your cottage. I felt it was very important to maintain the cottage aspect while adding a feeling of traditional New England detail. The other main element is the addition of a pergola covered wrap around porch.
The design proposes the demolition of the existing mudroom. The main reason for the demolition is the position of the volume. As the design progressed, the advantages of its removal became very evident. The first floor remains very open on the chimney side of the cottage. I have created a large great room, dining room and kitchen that flow from one space into the other. The opposite side maintains the large rear bedroom and a bedroom off the porch (front). The second floor incorporates 4 additional bedrooms and a bunk room for the children. Included are two bathrooms with separate WC, shower and vanity areas to maximize their use while maintaining privacy. The stair hall has been enlarged to create an open grand space at the center of the cottage.
Again, thank you for the opportunity to work on this project for you and I sincerely hope your receive designs that are both appropriate and well conceived.
