The space that results from demolishing the existing wall is very long and narrow. I tried to divide it by placing elements of furniture perpendicular to the long walls. All spaces still communicate, but the zones that are created have better proportions.
I placed the dining area in between the kitchen and family room, so that it was closer to the yard. Also, together with the family room it creates a flexible and multifunctional space.
The pantry is inspired by this photo: http://www.houzz.com/photos/16025701/Misc-Pictures-traditional-kitchen-omaha , blending into the kitchen furniture.
As for the color scheme, white furniture is predominant as you suggested and I added just some spots of color.
I hope you will like it!
