This duplex design maximizes the use of the Northern / Southern aspects to drive as much natural light into each duplex unit as possible. Naturally a block this size would restrict the design of this duplex in terms of open spaces and cross ventilation but by introducing court yards, it allows for the natural light and winds to penetrate into the various spaces. The services have been positioned and designed along the length of the common wall to allow for large open spaces. The large entertainment area on the first floor level is surrounded by two central voids that allows for high ceiling heights from the ground floor level and the chance for occupants to communicate between the two levels.
The wrap around side walk to the entry for each unit ensures for adequate privacy and it also allows for large open spaces of natural vegetation and prepares visitors on what's to come once they are inside the duplex.
The design of the main facade also reduces the look of two individual units and conveys the look of one wholesome dwelling. The (orange) lightweight cladding provides shelter to the bedroom windows in a more abstract way through the various angles. This particular wall adds dimension and volume to an otherwise boring flat wall. The balconies also allow occupants of the master bedroom to have their own private external space for recreational purposes.
