I'm working on adding a trex deck onto the back of my house. I've had the deck basically designed but I'm struggling with a few trouble areas. The large square deck is the existing structure. The stairs and the octagonal shape deck are the area I'm working on. The deck is coming down off another covered patio and forms two(maybe 3) seating areas. We don't need any big tables down below. The far area will a natural gas fire pit surrounded by seating. The other part I'd like to make it into a seating area, but I'm struggling to find the best way.
Between the two small trees on the back wall I'd like to put a trellis. Distance between the trees is 12 ft. I have been considered doing a 2 level trellis. As in the two outer parts would be lower and then a trellis beam would connect the two. This is going to be a thin Trellis no wider than 3-4 feet. Trellis posts will be three feet off house. I've also thought about putting a hammock between the trellis post and the two trees, but that complicates my seating arrangement.
The measurements located in the pdf are exact when looking at the house, other patio
We would like to keep as much of the stairs coming off as we can. Ideally I'd like to make it so you can walk off the deck in any direction
Things we need to avoid are sheer faces. Ideally we'd like it to be very flowing.
Big consideration is we'd like to make it seem like the deck was built with the house.
I love the idea of planters and hanging plants.
Problems I currently have:
1. Transition from the big stairs coming down to the lawn. We like the look of the 2d drawing, but unfortunately the architect didn't put a lot of thought in how those stairs connect.
2. How the tree bench connects to the stairs. I'm really trying to avoid the open face between the bench sides and the stairs. I need a way to make this a smooth transition between bench/stairs/landscape.
3. The current design stays three feet away from the house, but I'm open to going up against the house, though I need to leave the two small trees. So maybe cut out for the trees or something like that. Not sure how this fits into the seat arrangement.
The biggest factor on this is time, I just have these last few trouble areas that I need to finalize before I can begin construction. If I have at least two entries and they can solve my problems then I'd like to make a decision on Monday 4/29/13.
I want it to look very high end like it belongs on the house. If you can make something decorative that would really make it unique that would be great.
Functionality and the flow is very important.
Fixing the three problems.
I would also like to see somewhat of a 3d rendering to make it easier for my builder.
I'll be available all weekend to clarify any questions.
